2026 National Intern Day: Thank You to Our Interns!
Every year on National Intern Day, we celebrate the curiosity, dedication, and impact of our engineering interns across AEI. Today, July 30, 2026, we join organizations across the country in recognizing the next generation of engineering professionals and thanking them for the contributions they've made throughout the summer.
At AEI, our interns are much more than observers. They become part of our project teams, ask thoughtful questions, tackle complex challenges, and gain hands-on experience designing high-performance, sustainable environments. Watching this year's interns grow alongside our engineers has been one of the highlights of the summer, and we are proud to help them shape their careers.

Our internship program immerses students in meaningful work across core building systems and specialized engineering disciplines, including but not limited to:
- Mechanical Engineering – Designing efficient HVAC, thermal, and energy systems for high-performance buildings.
- Electrical Engineering – Developing resilient power distribution, lighting, and specialized electrical systems for critical facilities.
- Plumbing/Pipe Engineering – Designing sustainable water, gas, drainage, and piping systems for complex building environments.
- Fire Protection Engineering – Creating life safety and fire suppression systems that help protect people and property.
- Commissioning – Testing, verifying, and optimizing building systems to ensure they perform as intended.
- IT & Technology Systems – Integrating communications infrastructure, low-voltage systems, and smart building technologies.
- Security Systems – Designing access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems that enhance facility security.
- Instrumentation & Controls – Developing automated controls, sensors, and monitoring systems that improve building performance.
- Process Engineering – Engineering specialized fluid, gas, and chemical distribution systems that support advanced research, laboratory, and industrial facilities.

Throughout the summer, our interns contributed to projects serving healthcare, science and technology, higher education, energy and utilities, and other key markets. They worked alongside experienced AEI professionals using industry-standard tools, participated in design calculations and 3D modeling, attended project and client meetings, and gained firsthand experience seeing designs come to life through site visits.
Designing complex infrastructure is no small task, and this year's interns embraced every opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow. Their enthusiasm, attention to detail, and willingness to take on new challenges made a meaningful impact on our teams.
