“It’s all about the people. I believe we have a responsibility to one another and future generations to leave the world better than we found it. AEI provides me with the privilege of fulfilling this duty every day.”
Joanna Pyun launched her career after earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University in 2010. She started with a general contractor, where she developed strong project planning and cost-estimating skills essential for the success of complex infrastructure projects. This practical experience laid the foundation for her transition into consulting, where she made significant contributions to power and utility projects for high-profile clients such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Arizona State University, and Genentech’s South San Francisco and Vacaville facilities.
In 2017, Joanna joined AEI’s San Francisco office as a piping engineer, bringing her extensive technical expertise and a client-centered approach to a wide range of infrastructure projects. Her ability to collaborate seamlessly and translate complex technical concepts has been crucial in building and maintaining strong client relationships. Joanna has played a key role in groundbreaking decarbonization initiatives, including the Big Shift at the University of California, Davis, the Clean Energy Campus at UC Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s electrification efforts. As the leader of AEI’s San Francisco Mechanical group and an Energy & Utilities Market Leader, she is committed to advancing sustainable solutions and driving impactful change in the West Coast’s energy landscape.
Outside of work, Joanna actively participates in the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and the International District Energy Association (IDEA). She also cherishes spending time outdoors, swimming and hiking with her family.
