The First WELL Certified™ Platinum Public Higher Education Facility in the U.S.: The UF Student Health Care Center
We’re thrilled to share that the University of Florida’s (UF) Student Health Care Center (SHCC) achieved WELL Building Standard™ (WELL) Platinum Certification – making it the first of its kind in the United States to receive this remarkable distinction!
Replacing an infirmary built in the 1930s, the new SHCC is a testament to UF’s dedication to intentional student and staff well-being. At 50,800 square feet, the SHCC houses primary care, urgent care, a full-service pharmacy, and specialty services. Designed for optimal comfort, the SHCC is a space where UF students and staff can heal, collaborate, and thrive on campus.
“Congratulations to the Student Health Care Center at the University of Florida for becoming the first WELL Certified building at the Platinum level across higher education in the United States.”
Supported by extensive research, the WELL Building Standard recognizes holistic human health and well-being facility design principles while celebrating how biophilic design can help humans flourish in indoor environments.
As the first WELL Certified™ Platinum public higher education facility in the United States, the SHCC leads the way for holistic campus wellness across 10 WELL disciplines: air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community. The SHCC underwent on-site testing to confirm it met WELL criteria as part of the official certification process.
