Cone Health Asheboro Ambulatory Clinic and Cancer Treatment Center? Earns 2026 Healthcare Environment Award
Cone Health System’s Ambulatory Clinic and Cancer Treatment Center in Asheboro has received a 2026 Healthcare Environment Award from The Center for Health Design. The award recognizes projects that demonstrate excellence in creating healthcare environments that support patient healing and well-being. It highlights facilities that thoughtfully integrate design, care delivery, and the patient experience to improve outcomes for patients, families, and care teams.
This 51,000-square-foot facility provides oncology, ambulatory care, imaging, and pharmacy services, set within a welcoming, nature-integrated environment designed to support healing and comfort.
AEI served as the mechanical, electrical, piping/plumbing, and fire protection engineer for the project, collaborating closely with project partners to deliver a high-performing healthcare facility that balances technical performance with patient-centered design. Through a collaborative delivery approach, the team completed the facility within an accelerated timeline while maintaining flexibility to accommodate evolving program needs.
This recognition further highlights the impact of the Cone Health project team’s integrated design-and-delivery approach. The Ambulatory Clinic and Cancer Treatment Center also won the 2025 LCI Lean in Design award for its innovative project delivery model and lean design strategies.
