United Therapeutics Corporation's Project Lightyear Wins the 2024 ISPE FOYA Honorable Mention Award
We are proud to share United Therapeutics Corporation’s (United Therapeutics) Project Lightyear won the 2024 International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Facility of the Year Award (FOYA) Honorable Mention category – the only U.S.-based project to win this year!
Each year, ISPE FOYA celebrates innovative biotechnology and pharmaceutical projects advancing the industry through cutting-edge facility design and groundbreaking technology applications.
While ISPE FOYA winners are typically clinical or commercial product manufacturing and research lab spaces, the judges made an exception, celebrating United Therapeutics’ warehouse facility for expanding its supply chain capabilities while implementing cutting-edge decarbonization design that aligns with its commitment to environmental stewardship.
AEI provided mechanical, electrical, piping/plumbing, fire protection, sustainable, and utility infrastructure engineering design services for this resilient, net-zero energy, and carbon-zero current good manufacturing (CGMP) warehouse and logistics center. Project Lightyear achieved LEED Gold and is expected to obtain LEED Zero Carbon. Equipped with an all-electric system design, rooftop photovoltaic array, two Tesla megapacks of battery energy storage, and geothermal heating and cooling system, Project Lightyear is the first-of-its-kind, as a net-zero, carbon-zero energy CGMP facility.
