John Deere New Manufacturing Facility Earns the 2026 Metal Architecture Award
We are proud to announce that John Deere’s new manufacturing facility in Kernersville, North Carolina, has received the Solar Integration with Metal Award by Metal Architecture. The annual Metal Architecture Design Awards celebrate projects across the nation that demonstrate original design, exceptional overall appearance, and creative, high-performance uses of metal. Designed by Flad Architects, the state-of-the-art building seamlessly integrates 100,000 square feet of manufacturing and high-bay warehouse space with 15,000 square feet of modern, finished Class A office space.
For more than 180 years, Deere & Company has led the way in developing innovative machinery for the agriculture and construction industries. Built to expand production capacity and support next-generation product lines, this new 241,000-square-foot facility represents a bold step into the future. Developed in two phases, the Kernersville plant is designed to help John Deere adapt to evolving industry standards by advancing cutting-edge battery technology for e-mobility, stationary power systems, and comprehensive Level 3 charging solutions.

To bring this complex, sustainable vision to life, Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) provided comprehensive engineering design, conceptual planning, energy modeling, and construction support. AEI’s full scope encompasses mechanical, electrical, piping/plumbing, fire protection, technology, security, instrumentation and controls design, as well as cost estimating services. The resulting award-winning facility features battery pack assembly lines, high-bay automated assembly lines, end-of-line testing, and robust support systems designed for high-tech production. Integrated solar/photovoltaic systems, extensive power distribution with manufacturing busways, vehicle charging infrastructure, and emergency backup generators highlight the project’s advanced engineering solutions.
